Day 283

Day 283- California Citrus State Historic Park

Today we drove out to Riverside and spent a few hours at California Citrus State Historic Park.   This is a great place to spend an afternoon.  You can walk among hundreds of acres of citrus groves, picnic, visit a citrus museum, and shop at a citrus gift shop.  We wanted to visit during this time of the year when the trees are full of fruit.  We plan on visiting again in April when the sweet smelling orange blossoms are in bloom.  More photos if you click the link below.

Day 253- The Living Desert

I spent the afternoon at one of my favorite places in the Coachella Valley, The Living Desert.  The Living Desert is a zoo and botanical gardens located in Palm Desert, CA.  They are dedicated to preserving desert plants and wildlife and educating visitors about desert ecosystems.  My family has been members of the Living Desert for over 25 years.  I grew up visiting and have loved watching it grow.

Click the link below for more photos from today.  They include pictures of animals such as the Mexican Boa Constrictor,  Bighorn Sheep, Bobcat, Cheetah, Grevy's Zebra, and Mexican Wolf.

Day 151

Day 151- The West

I grew up in California, lived in Arizona, and spent time traveling to many of the states in the west, however, Wyoming is definitely the most "Western" place I have visited.  In my short time here I saw a lot of boots, cows, trucks and open plains.  We only visited the a tiny bit of the state but it was beautiful!

Day 134

Day 134-Sunset Hanger

Running errands tonight, I admired how impressive the Tustin Blimp Hangars looked at sunset.  I pulled over and took this photo as close as I could get to the hangar.  Since the base closed, the hangers are not getting as much upkeep as they used to and as the paint fades on the enormous doors, you can see that they are build out of wood.  I did a little research and learned that these hangars are the largest freestanding wooden structures in the world.  There has been a lot of talk about tearing down one or both of the two buildings, but I really hope they preserve one for a museum or park.  When I was little, we attended a pancake breakfast inside one of the hangars.   I'll never forget the awe inspiring feeling looking around the huge structure.

Day 129

Day 129- Irvine Views

It's views like this one that made me love growing up in Irvine.  It's also views like this that have been steadily disappearing over the past 20 years.  Let's hope these fields are here for years to come.

I did a small aperture so that the entire picture, even far in the distance, was in focus.

Day 127

Day 127- Fun Finds

Today we visited Rooster's Fun Bar which is located in Traveland USA, off of the 5 freeway in Irvine.  Traveland is an RV park and we did not know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised!  The place was fun, had great food, and had a fun laid back, very casual atmosphere.  Today's photo is of a gazebo-like structure they have on the property.  More photos below!
